Editing 1st Union War

The '''1st Union War''' was a conflict between the [[Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic]] rumpstate and the [[Komi Republic]] in 2039, following the events of the [[2nd Russian Revolution]] and the [[Russian Apocalypse]]. == Background ==
In 2035, following the nukes, the [[Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic]] faced an onslaught from the [[Republic of Russia]] and the crumbling Russian Federation, during the [[2nd Russian Revolution|Second Russian Revolution]]. He was only kept alive thanks to the [[Union of Russia]] seeking to keep him as a buffer against the [[Republic of Russia]] in the northeast. Now reduced to a pathetic rumpstate, armed only with an army of 100 000 and a dream of reunifying the Soviet Union, the [[Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic|Russian SFSR]] hoped to expand in any way possible in order to gain back his lost power.

=== Initial Push ===
On the 10th of May, 2039, [[Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic|RSFSR]] began his invasion. As soon as the war was declared, the [[Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic|Russian SFSR]] began marching north, quickly capturing the villages of Sogra, Lambas and Verkhnyaya Toima as well as heading for Bereznik.

=== Counter-Offensive ===
After two weeks the [[Komi Republic]] had mobilized his army and began a counter-offensive in the north, quickly taking back Sogra. Following this the [[Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic|Red Army]] sent reinforcements from the west, managing to take back the small village over the course of June. As these reinforcements were sent however, [[Komi Republic|Komi]] was able to focus his counter-offensives in the now underdefended west and would eventually be able to recapture Lambas before the war would grind to a stalemate by early August.

=== September Truce ===
In September, [[Udmurtia]] demanded a peace treaty to be mediated, threatening to call in the [[Republic of Russia]] if refused, to which the [[Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic|RSFSR]] agreed, considering he wasn't managing to make any gains anyway. In accordance with the truce, the new borders would be drawn along the current stalemated frontline.

=== Importance of Villages ===
None of the small villages that was fought over had any sizable populations, the largest of them being Verkhnyaya Toima at only 6 000 people. The real value of these small villages was rather their supply, due to the lacking infrastructure of the region. The [[Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic|RSFSR]] would later develop these small villages considerably as their homeless solidiers would move in. Over half of the population would however stay in Kotlas.

=== Lack of Communications ===
Part of the reason for the war, other than the [[Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic|Russian SFSR]]'s hunger for expansion, could be contributed to the lack of communications between [[Komi Republic|Komi]] and the [[Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic|RSFSR]], even during peace negotiations, where [[Udmurtia]] would have to be negotiating on the behalf of [[Komi Republic|Komi]]. This lack of direct contact largely stemed from the [[Komi Republic]] being shy, [[Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic|Russia]] being paranoid and the lacking infrastructure of both countries.

=== Follow Up ===
With tension between the two countries not fully settling and with the [[Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic]] still very small and discontent, a [[2nd Union War]] would eventually flare up in 2075.
