Servant Mapper/Interview
YouTube questions[edit | edit source]
Question 1: How did you discover YouTube?[edit | edit source]
I don't remember, but if I had to guess it would have been at my school laptop back in 2014, though earlier is possible.
Question 2: When did you create your YouTube channel and who inspired you to create it?[edit | edit source]
On the 22nd of November, 2022. I was inspired primarily by Bace Bulgarian Mapper, though I also got some degree of inspiration from Kyiv Mapping and Infiland.
Question 3: When did you upload your very first video on your YouTube channel?[edit | edit source]
Thuseday, 22nd of November 2022, 19:46 (7:46 PM).
Question 4: Who we're your first subscribers on your YouTube channel?[edit | edit source]
Finlandball, Mittel History, Lulu and Dec, Mithlesh yadav, GodshaneLegendary and Albert Mapping, Youtube lists as the first 6, having subscribed in January and February of 2023. I have no idea if they still even watch my videos but nevertheless. The Burning Flame, Sparta the mapper and Werhui also subscribed to me early on, aka in February. Other people would also subscribe early on as well, such as A German mapper, Osunicro, Mayo, Joso, Heinz and Soviet_fufu, though these I could not find in Youtube's limited statistics. It is also worth mentioning that before all these, where members of my family and close friends and alt accounts and stuff who more or less made up my first 10.
Question 5: What is your most and least viewed videos on your YouTube channel?[edit | edit source]
"AFOE: Collapse Season 1" is my most viewed video at 130,662 views (as of 2025-03-23), while my least viewed video is "Disloyalty: AFOE; collapse Ep 13" at one video, though this is a privated video (due to copyrighted music) and I haven't bothered deleting it. My least viewed actual video is "Déjá vu Episode x+2: Object 22" at 437 views.
Question 6: How many YouTube channels do you have?[edit | edit source]
As of writing this, I have 2. My main channel "Servant Mapper", and my ARG channel "Switzerland". I have been contemplating whether or not to make another channel for some time, which would if so be for non-mapping related random stuff and would most likely be called "Servant Yapper". Such a channel I have never got around to making and perhaps I never will.
Question 7: Who is your most subscribed subscriber on your YouTube channel?[edit | edit source]
Currently "GreenThornTheGeometryDasher873" at 4.66K subscribers, though I do remember having once had at least one subscriber with a subscriber count in the tens of thousands.
Question 8: How did you get the name "Servant Mapper"?[edit | edit source]
I came to the decision of choosing "Servant Mapper" as my name only a short amount of time before I made my channel. It was after I saw a christian video about why christians shouldn't give themselves grand titles like "evangelist" as christians ought to humble themselves and refer to themselves as Hypoteretes (Greek for "bottom rowers", in the english translation "servants"). After this video the main ideas for a channel name that I had were "Hypoteretes Mapper", "Swedish Mapper", "Swedish Servant Mapper" and "Servant Mapper" which I would ultimately decide on.
Mapping Questions[edit | edit source]
Question 9: How did you discover Mapping/who was the first mapper you ever watched?[edit | edit source]
This I do not remember, but I remember Bace Bulgarian's "AFOE Apocalypse" and Infiland's, (back then known as HenryEditz) "Alternate Future of the Europe" series very early on. According to my own estimation, I started watching mapping either 2018 or 2019. The latter seems more likely.
Question 10: Who is your favourite Mapper?[edit | edit source]
Bace Bulgarian Mapper.
Question 11: What motivated you to make mapping videos?[edit | edit source]
In early 2022 or late 2021 I found one of Kyiv's videos which reawakened my interest for mapping which had been de facto dead since 2020. As I had by this point learnt how to use Scratch, and I figured, instead of just scetching my ideas out on some piece of paper or writing a mapping story in a google document, why not try to outright make mapping in Scratch? The result was pretty horrible and it took a few months before I regained motivation, this time making something I was actually proud of, (not anymore though). By the end of the summer of 2022 I began working on my Déjà vu series, and had just begun with a new series called "AFOE; collapse late autum. After having shown my works to an older friend, he encouraged me, stating "this deserves Youtube" and I thus got the motivation to start my Youtube channel.
Question 12: What are your thoughts on the Mapping Community today?[edit | edit source]
The community I see as pretty toxic and politically left-wing, however it's not as bad as I thought, as only the main community is a bit questionable.
[edit | edit source]
I sure do! Fortunately for me none of them were uploaded to Youtube so there's no pressure on me to ever continue working on them. They were, and they barely even had names: "Hjul" (some sort of pun with the Swedish words for "wheel" (hjul) and "christmas" (jul), though I can't seem to remember the punchline... This was the first mapping "video" I made and with horrible quality. It was an attemt to recreate the mapping series I had been writing in a google document but now on to Scratch. The video was about Serbia fighting against Albania in a post apocalyptic setting inspired by Bace Bulgarian's "AFOE Apocalypse". The second two unfinished "series" I made was essentially me mapping in my Small-Salmon universe (from some books I had been writing for a while). The first one was about the aftermath of the 7th book's ww3 while the second one was about its ww3. The fourth unfinished series I made was called "Art of 'Peace'" which was alternate history, with the scenario being that H*tler got accepted into art school.
Question 14: Do you have an advice for all the mappers out there?[edit | edit source]
"Don't worry if you feel like you're horrible at mapping, because everyone is that when they are starting out. As long as you strive to improve you will improve, and by a lot."
Question 15: What are your plans for your future Mapping Career?[edit | edit source]
Making Season 3 and 4 of AFOE: Collapse, making and finishing AHOww2. Those are my main goals, though I also have ideas for some side projects and potentially some videos about AFOE: Collapse lore and stuff. I also have an idea for a new, sligtly smaller series called "History of the World" or "HOW", which will be one video for each year, beginning in 2020 and making mapping out of the real life events. If I will ever be motivated enough to make such a series though I am not sure, as I currently have too many uncompleted side projects that needs completion.
Question 16: Do you think Mapping is dead?[edit | edit source]
No I don't. It is still alive, but barely so. After all, if it truly had been dead I wouldn't be having a channel with 42k hours of watch time (4.8 real life years). It is certainly in the process of dying though, and I am not sure if it could be saved.
