Spain, officially the Spanish State, is a country in Western Europe of about average strength. He tends to be an unreliable ally of France and generally afraid of committing to a cause, such as defeating Germany. He is a falagist-rationalist constitutional monarchy. == Personality == Spain is a 'true neutral' enneagram 7w6 with an IQ of 90. Spain's main character flaw is his fear of sticking to a cause, both for insecurity about the moral rightousness of the endevour and for fear of his own safety. In spite of this Spain genuinelly does want to believe in and fight for a greater cause, but every time he does, he starts to spiral, questioning whether it was ever worth it to begin with. He fears that if he fully commits to something, he’ll either betray it or be betrayed by it. This makes him avoid responsibility not just out of self-preservation, but because he doesn’t trust any cause enough to truly fight for it. Spain's tendency to flee responsibility is shown again and again throughout the series and his arc eventually ends with him doubling down on this cowardice. == History == ==== Francoist Regime ==== The cause of Spain's insecurity can be dated back to the Spanish Civil War of 1936 where the fascist regime under Franco ultimetely won, but at the cost of a massive bloodshed. This very questionable victory made Spain doubt whether his cause was even worth fighting for, and his alignment with the morally dubious Third Reich under Cinatit did not make it any better. As such, he opted to stay neutral and rebuild, watching his allies go to war, lose, and being trialed for war crimes at Nuremberg. ==== Member of NATO ==== In 1975, following the death of Francisco Franco, Spain would adopt democracy as a constitutional monarchy, promising himself to never go back to his old authoritarian ways again and to fight to defend his new democratic values. He would go on to join NATO on the 30th of May, 1982 and would remain in the alliance until 2028. ==== Road to Rationalism ==== Following the departure of the USA from NATO and president Donald J. Trump's failed attempt at dissolving the alliance, Spain would decide to leave the alliance after some encouragement from France. He reasoned that America's departure had ruined the credibility of the alliance anyway and that it was thus doomed to fall. He also expressed open doubts about the rightousness of the ideology, expressing disstain for the woke neoliberal internationalism that had been rising throughout the Old West ever since the 2010s. Spain would nevertheless stay in the European Union for a bit longer. ==== Rationalist Order ==== After the crash of the Euro in 2029, which combined with the Chinese stock market crash of the same year, caused the Second Great Depression, Spain would firmly leave the Old West behind, electing rationalists to power in his election of 2031 and subsequently leaving the European Union in the following year. Soon after, World War 2.5 would break out, in which Spain would openly aid the French rationalist regime in his war against CETO. In 2039 Spain would join the Rationalist Order, a French alliance aimed at stopping Germany from falling to his fate. The year after he would participate in the 2nd Franco-Prussian War and would sue for peace immediately after the defeat of the 6th French republic, as he and Italy did not have the morale neccessary to continue on by themselves. ==== Intermarium ==== The Spanish State would then remain in neutrality for some time, officially changing his flag in 2050. He would finally break his neutrality in 2058 by joining the Intermarium, after having seen Italy be partitioned between it and the New Order, lead by the Fifth Reich. Spain partook in World War III and saw France smuggle the Gateway Protocols to him before falling. As France fell however, Spain immediately sued for peace, taking the easy way out yet again, even though, as Poland would argue, he probably could have defended along the Pyrenees. ==== Second Spanish Civil War ==== See more: 2nd Spanish Civil War
